03 / ARTWORK THAT FITS THE PIECE
Choose the process.
Keep the design intent.
A bold graphic, a fine line and a metallic accent can call for different decoration routes. High-, mid- and low-temperature decal options, plus manual screen-printing options, are reviewed against your artwork, ceramic form and intended use.
| Decoration route | What it helps you explore | What we confirm |
|---|
| High-temperature decals | A fired artwork route when use requirements and decoration durability are central to the brief. | Body and glaze compatibility, pigment palette, firing specification, artwork detail and any required wash testing. |
|---|
| Mid- & low-temperature decals | Alternative color and decorative-effect options when a single high-temperature process does not suit the design. | Color, finish, decoration position and the approved sample’s care instructions. Temperature alone does not determine performance. |
|---|
| Manual screen printing | Selected artwork placements and decoration areas that need a form-specific approach. | Surface access, curvature, registration, color count, usable artwork area and method feasibility. Not every three-dimensional surface can be printed directly. |
|---|
| Combined decoration | A coordinated look across shapes, printed artwork and selected gold details. | Process sequence, color matching, separate decoration charges and a physical sample of the final combination. |
|---|
We do not promise “never fades,” universal dishwasher safety or microwave safety from a process name. The exact decorated specification, intended use and relevant testing determine those claims.
BEFORE YOU BRIEF THE PROJECT
The questions that matter.
Can you develop unusual shapes, not just standard mugs?
Yes — send a sample, sketch or drawing for a feasibility review. The brief may cover sculptural mug bodies, shaped or three-dimensional handles, embossed or relief details, and coordinated lids, saucers, trays or other ceramic pieces. Each component must be reviewed for forming, firing, assembly, decoration and safe use; a design enquiry is not a guarantee that every geometry can be produced.
Does the 50-piece minimum cover a new mold?
No blanket 50-piece promise applies to new tooling. Selected existing styles start from 50 pieces. A new shape, special glaze, multiple components or complex decoration can require a different quantity, tooling charge, sample cost and schedule. Your written quotation sets out the terms.
Will a high-temperature decal be microwave- and dishwasher-safe?
The firing category alone does not establish the care rating of the finished product. Suitability depends on the ceramic body, glaze, pigment, decoration area and any metallic details. Tell us your washing and microwave requirements so the exact specification and any necessary sample testing can be agreed.
Is hand-painted real gold the same as electroplated imitation gold?
No. Genuine-gold decoration and electroplated imitation gold are different finish routes, priced and specified separately. Real-gold purity, formulation, decoration area and application are confirmed for the project. Do not assume either metallic finish is microwave- or dishwasher-safe; request care instructions for the approved sample.
Can you protect my custom shape or give me ownership of the mold?
Discuss tooling ownership, storage, maintenance, exclusivity and any design rights before development begins. These must be written into your project agreement. A new mold alone does not automatically confer exclusivity, patent protection or ownership of all design rights.
What should I send to get started?
Send a sample or clear reference photos, dimensions or target capacity, artwork and preferred finish. Add the quantity per shape and color, intended use, delivery destination and required date. A sketch can start the conversation; drawings, proofs, physical samples and final tolerances are agreed as the project develops.
What about food-contact compliance and testing?
Tell us the destination market and the exact documents or testing your buyer requires, including any food-contact or lead/cadmium migration requirements. Relevant reports must match the material, glaze and decoration supplied. We do not present an unverified blanket FDA, LFGB, California Prop 65 or lead-free certification.
Can I approve a sample before production?
Ask for a physical sample and artwork proof as part of your brief. Sample availability, tooling needs, charges, revisions and timing are confirmed in the quotation. Approve the agreed shape, finish, artwork placement, care instructions and packing specification before proceeding to production.
